ABOUT

As a fine artist turned award-winning filmmaker, John’s goal is to bridge the gap between what the eye sees and what the heart feels.
John Arlotto grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland, spending much of his youth studying the great works in the nearby National Art Museums of Washington DC. John attended Cornell University where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree before evolving to the medium of film. He worked as a professional editor for many years creating artistic, fast-paced shows and videos for companies such as Sony Pictures Entertainment, Honda Automotive, Honda Motorcycle, Hyundai and The Walt Disney Company.

John then earned his Master of Fine Arts in Film from the Art Center College of Design where he wrote, directed, edited and produced the short film DEFACE, which has played in over forty film festivals around the world, won several awards and qualified for Oscar consideration for Best Live Action Short.

John went on to direct the short film Wounded, starring Joe Manganiello (True Blood, Magic Mike) which premiered at the Palm Springs Festival of Shorts and won Best Short Film at the Big Island Film Festival. His feature scripts Heart Murmur and Bloodline were both quarter-finalists in the Nicholls Fellowship Screenwriting Competition and his feature script DEFACE, based on the short film, was a semi-finalist, placing it in the top 130 scripts out of over 6,000 entries.

John edited the award-winning feature film Desert Son and worked as the the Lead Editor/Story Developer and shoot Director for Disney’s “Rivers of Light”, the inaugural nighttime water-screen spectacle show at the Disney Animal Kingdom theme park. John also created video content for the large scale Disney live shows Fantasmic, Pixar's Together Forever, World of Color and Villainous.
John’s background as a fine artist combined with his experience as a professional editor helps his directing work be daring, yet efficient. His award-winning short films prove his ability to tell clear, powerful stories, work well with actors and produce highly visual content. Any project John chooses to helm as director will exemplify the same sophisticated pacing, professional production value and epic visual style.
John continues to work as a director and editor of high impact product videos and spectacle shows. John lives in Los Angeles where he and his wife do their part to keep the local babysitters employed by attending as many indie music concerts as their aging knees will allow.
